The demand for residential and commercial construction is universal across societies. As local, state, and national infrastructure development and maintenance lag behind, construction trades will see growing demand. With the current national shift toward "Green" or Sustainable practices, acquiring training in environmentally-focused job skills has become essential. Additionally, the recent integration of building science into the construction sector requires all workers, contractors, and designers to master new building performance standards.
Santa Barbara City College's Construction Technology Department provides thorough training for entry-level industry positions, intermediate and advanced instruction for current workers, and specialized education in green building and building science for architects, contractors, and individuals entering the construction field. Each successfully finished course awards full credit. Students completing the required 41.1 units of Construction Technology coursework receive a Certificate of Achievement in Construction Technology.
Those who additionally fulfill Institutional and General Education requirements obtain an Associate in Science degree in Construction Technology. The department maintains an open-door policy for all courses, welcoming both majors and non-majors.
