Journalism students explore the diverse landscape of American news media, including print publications, broadcast channels, and digital platforms, as part of their liberal arts curriculum. Each journalism course provides hands-on experience, enabling students to create content suitable for publication in The Channels, SBCC's acclaimed student newspaper and digital platform. As an integral component of the School of Media Arts, the Journalism Department encourages interdisciplinary collaboration with students specializing in film, video production, multimedia arts, photography, and graphic design.

The Journalism Associate in Arts for Transfer degree equips students with essential knowledge for seamless transition to bachelor's programs across CSU institutions. This specialized transfer degree (AA-T/AS-T), available at California Community Colleges, guarantees admission to a CSU campus in a related field (though not necessarily a specific location). AA-T/AS-T graduates receive preferential admission consideration for comparable programs and enjoy GPA benefits when applying to competitive CSU campuses or majors. Prospective AA-T/AS-T candidates should consult with an academic counselor for detailed guidance on this transfer pathway.
