The Philosophy Post-baccalaureate Certificate provides graduate students from various academic backgrounds with foundational expertise in specific philosophical fields. This program enhances participants' abilities in analytical writing, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, teaching methods, and research proficiency. It builds upon students' previous education and equips them for careers demanding sharp analytical and ethical competencies, such as policy analysis, ethics consulting, community college instruction, or speechwriting.
Furthermore, the program offers participants the opportunity to thoughtfully evaluate pursuing a Philosophy MA by engaging in upper-level courses and consultations with department faculty. Typically completed within two academic terms, students considering the master's program should transition before their third semester. Those needing an additional term to finish the certificate should consult the Philosophy Graduate Program Co-Directors.
The Co-Directors of the Philosophy Graduate Program advise certificate candidates and evaluate all study plans to confirm enrollment in required 3-unit courses covering: Analytical and Critical Writing, Pedagogy and Research Literacy, Intermediate Philosophical Specialization, and Ethical Decision-Making.
