The Master of Science program in Speech Language Pathology from the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences (CDS) provides comprehensive training in communication disorders, focusing on areas such as speech sound disorders, fluency challenges (including stuttering), augmentative communication methods, voice issues, swallowing difficulties, neurological communication impairments, hearing problems, language development disorders, social communication aspects, and cognitive-communication deficits. The curriculum combines academic coursework with hands-on clinical experience, emphasizing evidence-based evaluation and treatment approaches that are ethical, inclusive, and culturally sensitive. Clinical training occurs across diverse environments, including the department's Kay Armstead Center for Communicative Disorders. Specialized services encompass diagnostic assessments, intervention programs, and specialized clinics for augmentative communication, voice rehabilitation, adults with intellectual disabilities, children with language impairments, aphasia research, and a summer program for youth who stutter. Clinical placements offer experience with clients of all ages across educational institutions (from preschool to high school), healthcare facilities, rehabilitation centers, private clinics, and hospital settings.
