The Master of Education in Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) program combines academic coursework with hands-on clinical experience, equipping students with essential skills for a career in speech-language pathology (SLP). The program starts with classes at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, alongside clinical training at the Sheila C. Johnson Center (SJC), an on-site multidisciplinary clinic serving patients throughout Virginia. At SJC, CSD graduate students develop foundational clinical skills under professional supervision. The curriculum accommodates both students with prior CSD experience (Blue Track) and those new to the field (Orange Track).
In their final semester, students undertake a full-time internship five days a week while preparing for national certification exams. Internships are available nationwide across various settings, including healthcare, schools, and private practices. Each course and clinical rotation prepares students to address the full Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology, serving diverse populations from infants to older adults in both medical and educational environments. Our program emphasizes practical learning and evidence-based decision-making, shaping adaptable professionals for today's workforce.

The Blue Track spans five consecutive semesters (including summers) and is tailored for:
Students holding an undergraduate degree in communication disorders, or
Those with degrees in other fields who've completed ASHA prerequisite courses at an accredited program.
