The MS in Materials Engineering is delivered through the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. This graduate program offers in-depth exploration of materials engineering, balancing theoretical foundations with practical applications. Students can choose from specialized tracks including semiconductor processing, polymer science, ceramic engineering, structural materials, and biomaterials. The curriculum incorporates cross-disciplinary opportunities through electives in science, business, and various engineering disciplines. This comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach has consistently prepared graduates for successful careers at top Silicon Valley firms and advanced doctoral studies. Course timings are structured to accommodate working professionals seeking part-time graduate education.
The MatE MS Program considers students who have a MatE/MatSci BS degree or closely related engineering or science ((e.g. physics, mechanical engineering) BS degree with a GPA of 2.7 or above in the major courses. Students with a US MatE/MatSci BS degree are admitted to classified standing if they have a GPA in the major of 3.0, or better or they are admitted to conditionally classified standing if they have a GPA in the major between 2.7 and 2.99. Students who meet the GPA requirement and have a BS degree in a closely-related engineering or science discipline (e.g. physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering) and/or who have a non-US MatE degree are admitted in conditionally classified standing.
