The Master of Science (M.S.) in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at our institution offers students the chance to develop research expertise at a world-class university while obtaining a prestigious M.S. degree in this field. This intensive two-year program blends rigorous coursework with hands-on research experience. Students work closely with faculty mentors to customize their curriculum, balancing fundamental materials science principles with specialized electives. As part of faculty-led research teams, M.S. candidates conduct extensive investigations, culminating in a thesis defense before faculty examiners. Research topics are selected through faculty collaboration, allowing students to leverage Cornell's exceptional interdisciplinary environment and state-of-the-art facilities. Our MS&E department features dynamic research initiatives in four key domains: Energy Production and Storage, Electronics and Photonics, Bio-inspired Materials and Systems, and Sustainable Technologies.
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in engineering or physical science.
