San José State University's Department of Public Health and Recreation provides an MPH degree with a community health education specialization available in two formats: traditional on-campus classes and an online option through the College of Professional and Global Education. Students in both delivery methods follow the same challenging curriculum. The on-campus MPH program allows for flexible completion timelines, typically two years or longer based on individual needs. The online MPH, offered through Special Session, is an intensive 24-month program.
Established in 1970, our MPH Program trains community health education professionals and has maintained uninterrupted accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) since 1974. As the officially recognized accrediting body for public health graduate programs, CEPH promotes educational quality to foster excellence in professional practice, research, and community service through partnerships. U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. A 2.5 GPA (from the 0.0-4.0 U.S. grading scale) in the last degree completed or a 2.5 GPA in the last two years of full-time study.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 80 (IBT), paper based – 550, Computer based – 213; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53. GRE General test required.
