The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at Indiana State University consists of 36 graduate credits designed for working professionals in public service or nonprofit organizations. Upon admission, students collaborate with Public Administration faculty to develop their academic plan during the initial semester. Typically, students fulfill all degree requirements within two to three years. The program features a specialized concentration in genomic advocacy, offered in partnership with the Certificate in Genomic Advocacy program, which students may elect to complete. The university permits transferring up to 12 credit hours from other institutions, provided the coursework is recent. Transferred core courses must demonstrate substantial equivalence to ISU's curriculum as determined by faculty, while elective transfers must comply with cognate requirements.
Students lacking substantial public or nonprofit sector background gain practical administrative training through a three-credit internship completed during their final program stages. This internship increases the total credit requirement from 36 to 39 hours. Upon graduation, these students will have accumulated both academic credits and a minimum of three months of professional internship experience.
