Epidemiology examines how diseases and health conditions spread and what factors influence them within human communities. Serving as public health's core discipline, it equips professionals with the theoretical frameworks and practical methods needed to address population health challenges. The 45-credit MPH in Epidemiology is a professional degree designed to train future public health practitioners, researchers, leaders, and advisors. Full-time students typically finish in two years, while part-time students have up to four years to complete requirements, with most classes scheduled during evening hours. Beyond classroom learning, all epidemiology master's candidates must fulfill a 240-hour practicum and a culminating capstone project. Our location near Washington, D.C. provides exceptional research opportunities at premier institutions like the NIH, CDC, FDA, Maryland's health department, and numerous other federal, state, and local health organizations.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
