The MA TESOL program equips students to evaluate and methodically develop the English language abilities—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—of non-native speakers seeking to learn or enhance their English proficiency. The Linguistics and Language Development (LLD) Department blends theoretical knowledge with practical application. Learners join a culturally and linguistically varied student community, guided by faculty with national and international reputations. Alumni of the MA TESOL program frequently lead ESL initiatives across various educational institutions, including universities, community colleges, adult education centers, and private organizations. Many graduates also pursue international opportunities, teaching English abroad in academic institutions and corporate settings throughout Asia, Latin America, Europe, and beyond. The program qualifies graduates for prestigious international teaching positions such as the Fulbright and English Language Fellow programs. This degree welcomes applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds. (Please note: the department does not offer credentialing services.)
