The Department of English and Comparative Literature provides a 16-unit curriculum featuring a twelve-unit core (ENGL 106, ENGL 107, ENGL 129) along with four units of an elective approved by an advisor. Prerequisite: Successful completion of WST or graduate student status.

To qualify for admission to an advanced certificate program, applicants must complete an intake form or submit an application via CalState Apply, along with official transcripts (demonstrating completion of a U.S. bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or its international equivalent). A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is required.
