The University of Tennessee's Master of Arts program features two specialized tracks: Literature, Criticism, and Textual Studies alongside Rhetoric, Writing, and Linguistics. Both concentrations deliver outstanding academic preparation through adaptable course structures. Participants can focus on diverse areas ranging from medieval literary studies to theoretical analysis or opt for a broader educational approach. We seek intellectually curious applicants who will contribute meaningfully to our academic environment while taking advantage of our comprehensive resources. Our program boasts competitive funding packages, faculty with national and global reputations, and access to a top-tier research library. Conference travel grants support student research and professional development, helping them launch careers in their chosen specialties. Through the Graduate Students in English association, subject-focused discussion groups, and various events, participants form both scholarly and social connections around common interests. Alumni from our MA program successfully transition into prestigious doctoral programs and professional roles in publishing, technical communication, and various organizational settings.
