The department provides a Master of Arts program in Rhetoric and Writing Studies. We embrace students from diverse backgrounds with interests spanning rhetorical theories and histories, professional and technical communication, writing instruction, digital media, and cultural, political, and social difference rhetorics. Our M.A. program enables in-depth exploration of written, spoken, and visual communication and their connections to knowledge, culture, and professional applications. The curriculum examines persuasive techniques and their historical theoretical foundations, writing instruction methodologies, and the social, political, and workplace contexts of argumentation. Graduates are equipped for further academic research in rhetoric or careers including college and high school teaching, curriculum development, technical and professional writing, corporate communications, public relations, publishing, information design, educational technology, web development, healthcare information systems, and more.
