The Department of Computer Engineering provides an 18-unit Cybersecurity Foundations Certificate designed for students pursuing careers in cybersecurity. This program follows nationally recognized knowledge standards and equips students with essential foundational skills to excel as cybersecurity professionals.
University Basic Certificate Guidelines
Basic certificate programs enable students to achieve targeted educational goals, often with a pre-professional focus, independent of degree programs. A minimum of 6 units must be completed at SJSU. Certificate candidates must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in all certificate coursework. Up to 33% of certificate units (e.g., 3 units for a 9-unit program) may be earned through SJSU's Open University, pending departmental approval (University Policy S16-17).
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. A 2.5 GPA (from the 0.0-4.0 U.S. grading scale) in the last degree completed or a 2.5 GPA in the last two years of full-time study.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 80 (IBT), paper based – 550, Computer based – 213; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53. GRE scores are required of all international applicants and all domestic applicants with bachelor’s GPAs beneath 3.25. Those with five or more years of direct experience in hardware through employment may request a waiver of the GRE. The absolute cutoff for acceptance for the sum of the quantitative and verbal portions is 300, although higher scores may be required in some semesters depending on the strength of the applicant pool. The minimum GRE writing score is 3.0.
