The Department of Public Health and Recreation develops professionals who champion wellness and enhance living, working, learning, and recreational spaces. We implement a Teacher-Scholar-Practitioner Model by engaging students, alumni, faculty, and communities to progress public health and recreation methodologies. Our public health undergraduate program explores diverse health determinants (physical, emotional, social, environmental, and spiritual) alongside scientific foundations for population-level health promotion (including epidemiology, policy, and community health) to establish ideal conditions for universal wellbeing.
Every program we offer, from bachelor's to master's degrees, features learner-focused curricula aligned with our dedication to community growth, equity principles, cross-disciplinary and multicultural perspectives, academic excellence, hands-on education, and professional preparation. Through strategic planning, we've established this departmental vision: To pioneer transformative education, research, and practice by uniting public health and recreation to drive societal progress, fostering thriving, equitable communities where lasting health and wellness flourish for all people.
