The Forensic Science program within SJSU's Department of Justice Studies provides Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in four specialized areas: Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biology, Digital Evidence, and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), designed for aspiring crime laboratory professionals. Forensic science majors develop a robust scientific foundation through introductory and upper-level biology, chemistry, and physics classes, enhanced by specialized forensic science application courses. Each concentration's curriculum aligns with the accreditation standards set by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences' Forensic Education Program. The CSI specialization emphasizes scientific crime scene investigation methodologies, covering evidence documentation, physical evidence collection, scene reconstruction techniques, fingerprint analysis, and firearms/toolmark examination.
