The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers vibrant BS and MS engineering programs. Situated in the core of Silicon Valley, we have established robust partnerships and enduring collaborations with the diverse range of biomedical engineering firms in our vicinity. These range from well-established companies with global brand recognition to emerging startups on the verge of technological breakthroughs. Our educational programs are renowned for their distinctive hands-on methodology grounded in rigorous academics, consistently drawing in students. The Biomedical Engineering Bachelor of Science program holds accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Biomedical engineering is an inherently multidisciplinary field at the crossroads of engineering, biology, and health sciences. Biomedical engineers apply engineering principles to create solutions for a broad array of products and technologies that enhance quality of life. Students pursuing a biomedical engineering major will find fulfillment in a field dedicated primarily to human health and welfare.
The Biomedical Engineering Department's mission is to become a prominent leader in translational biomedical research; to deliver practical education centered on addressing real-world biomedical challenges; and to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship for the betterment of human health.
Developed in consultation with prospective employers, the BS and MS Biomedical Engineering programs equip graduates for a variety of emerging careers in areas like biomedical devices, bioelectronics, instrumentation, imaging, bioinformatics, and manufacturing. The curriculum readies students to operate effectively within U.S. Food & Drug Administration-regulated settings. These programs also foster essential soft skills, including verbal and written communication and teamwork, crucial for professional achievement and ongoing learning in the global economy. The capacity to handle ethical considerations, which are critically important in biomedical engineering, is nurtured, and communication abilities are woven into courses across the entire program.
Students must Earn a high school diploma, or equivalent and earn the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or an average of “B” grades. Successfully complete three years of college preparatory mathematics with a minimum grade of “C-” or better.
English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0, TOEFL – 80 (IBT), Paper based – 550; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 44.
