The Literature program, delivered by the Department of English and Comparative Literature, equips students with comprehensive knowledge of literary genres, historical periods, and analytical methods across British, American, and global literary traditions. The curriculum encompasses both classic and contemporary works, fostering advanced skills in textual analysis, critical interpretation, and articulate written expression. At San Jose State, undergraduates engage in independent research initiatives while mastering information literacy skills including source evaluation and effective data organization. Program alumni demonstrate exceptional proficiency in textual analysis, logical reasoning, and persuasive communication—highly valued competencies in modern professional environments.
Students must Earn a high school diploma, or equivalent and earn the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or an average of “B” grades. Successfully complete three years of college preparatory mathematics with a minimum grade of “C-” or better.
English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0, TOEFL – 61 (IBT), Paper based – 500; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 44.
