Centered on globalization, diversity, and community involvement, the Hispanic and Latin American Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics program offers a cross-disciplinary, multilingual exploration of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking societies. It incorporates modern viewpoints from linguistics, literature, cinema, performing arts, social work, and professional fields like healthcare, law, commerce, education, and media. The Spanish track emphasizes Spain and Latin America's language and traditions, while the Portuguese concentration highlights Brazilian culture alongside Portugal and Lusophone Africa. The dual specialization acknowledges the growing global influence of Brazil, Spain, and Latin America, particularly in Florida's context. With Spanish and Portuguese speakers being Florida's most rapidly expanding immigrant groups, mastering both languages and cultures gives students an advantage in pursuing careers across business, tourism, healthcare, agriculture, public service, and education sectors.
