The Interdisciplinary Studies program provides both Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees, designed for students whose academic goals aren't fully addressed by SF State's standard graduate programs. Candidates must create a 30-36 unit curriculum combining courses from various fields, aiming to synthesize different concepts, approaches, and methods around a unifying theme that may offer fresh perspectives on a topic or challenge. Typically, coursework should span three departments across at least two University colleges. Students must finish their degree within five years of initial enrollment.
