The Department of Physics and Astronomy provides robust undergraduate and graduate curricula in physics, astronomy, and astrophysics, equipping students for diverse career paths in scientific fields, technology, education, and advanced academic pursuits. Our mission is to cultivate adaptable physicists and astronomers who master theoretical foundations while developing practical abilities in analytical problem-solving, data collection and interpretation, and computational modeling. The Bachelor of Arts in Physics program is ideal for students aiming to integrate physics with disciplines like engineering, business, or liberal arts. This degree also serves as outstanding preparation for careers in technical writing, scientific sales, and laboratory research support. Recommended high school coursework includes two years of algebra, one year each of geometry and chemistry, a trigonometry semester, and a physics course. Programming experience is beneficial. We strongly recommend all students, particularly those without extensive high school chemistry background, to enroll in CHEM 115, CHEM 215, and CHEM 216 during their freshman year.
