The Graduate Program in Homeland Security aims to develop leaders from diverse academic and professional fields who can skillfully recognize, plan, and coordinate community resources to mitigate, prevent, and address terrorist threats and critical emergencies across local, regional, national, and international scales. As the nation's first graduate-level Homeland Security program, we take pride in delivering a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum culminating in a Master of Science degree. Our program maintains an in-person format, emphasizing the value of building connections with peers and future collaborators. The Graduate Program in Homeland Security is available at both SDSU-San Diego (Main Campus) and SDSU-Imperial Valley (near El Centro, California).
At SDSU, the Homeland Security Graduate Program fosters an academic setting where theoretical knowledge, education, and research directly address real-world security challenges. HSEC faculty actively bridge classroom instruction with practical service opportunities. Every student participates in internships, professional work, or fellowships in varied fields—from emergency response roles like Red Cross Disaster Worker assignments to law enforcement or intelligence community placements, or career advancement within their current professions. The SDSU HSEC MS program has consistently contributed to addressing urgent crises and incidents at local, national, and international levels.
