Qualification Requirements

The student's POS, prepared in conference with and approved by the Graduate Adviser, must satisfy the following requirements:

Twenty-one units of course work:
A minimum of twelve units should be selected from one of the specialty areas listed below, in exceptional cases, this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Graduate Adviser, provided the substitute course is in the College of Engineering and enhances a coherent program in a specific professional area.

For students from US universities a GPA of 2.85 is required. For students from universities outside the US, a 3.0 is the minimum. Exceptional students who have done very well in the GRE but have fell a little below these requirements may be considered for conditional admission. Applicants whose major education has been in a language other than English must score 550 or higher (using the paper version) or 80 or higher (using the Internet version) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 6.5 or better on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
