The School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering provides advanced degree programs for both MS and ME qualifications in civil engineering. Doctoral candidates can pursue a Ph.D. in Engineering Science with a specialization in civil, environmental, and infrastructure engineering through the College of Engineering. These programs deliver specialized coursework and research opportunities across multiple disciplines including structural, environmental, geotechnical, and water resources engineering. Further details regarding MS, ME, and Ph.D. options are available. The Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum enables in-depth specialization in structural systems, environmental systems, geotechnical studies, and water resource management. Students have the flexibility to select either a thesis-based MS in Civil Engineering or a non-thesis ME in Civil and Environmental Engineering track.

2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A, approximately a B- average) on the last two years of Bachelor's coursework, 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a B average). An applicant was awarded a Master's degree at an accredited college/university in the United States and has been in residence in the United States continuously prior to application to SIU (not out of the country for more than one calendar year). You have a minimum of 60 graded (A, B, C) hours of recent coursework completed at an accredited college / university in the United States with continuous residence in the United States prior to application at SIU. Pass / Fail, Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory, or Proficiency credit is not acceptable. The English language requirement may be met by submitting: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 80 on the internet-based TOEFL, 6.5 on the IELTS
The School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering requires that applicants to the MS program hold a bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent), or have completed all undergraduate degree requirements prior to registration, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A = 4.00) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. Students having a GPA between 2.7 and 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

All applicants are required to submit official GRE scores in support of their applications for admission. Minimum GRE scores required are: 147 Verbal, 152 Quantitative, 3.5 Analytical Writing. The GRE scores must be less than five years old from the test date to the month of admission (when coursework begins). Applicants whose primary spoken language is not English must provide an official TOEFL score of at least 80 (internet based), 550 (test center) or 220 (computer based). The TOEFL score must be less than two years old from the test date to the month of admission (when coursework begins). IELTS are accepted in place of the TOEFL and must be a minimum of 6.5. Minimum requirements for GRE verbal and analytical writing may be waived if the student's TOEFL score is greater than 570 (test center) or 230 (computer based) or 82 (internet testing) or IELTS score is greater than 7.0, and he/she possesses good communication skills.
