The School of Music and Dance at San Diego State University boasts a distinguished conducting faculty comprised of nationally acclaimed artist-educators. SMD conducting students benefit from diverse performance opportunities with various ensembles including orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber groups. The program offers weekly one-on-one instruction and significant podium time with SMD ensembles under faculty supervision. Throughout their studies, students conduct performances both on campus and at San Diego venues. Those pursuing Conducting M.M. and A.D. degrees will lead major SMD ensembles during their program. With faculty guidance, students develop practical skills in concert programming, musician recruitment, and arts administration. In their final year, M.M. and A.D. candidates undertake an entrepreneurial recital project, overseeing all production elements for an on- or off-campus performance.
