This specialization meets the qualifications for teaching at community colleges. Applicants need a bachelor's degree in mathematics (or equivalent) and must complete six units from Mathematics 320, 330, or 524 before starting. Mathematics 524 can be completed either before admission or as part of the 30-unit degree. Plan A includes Mathematics 600, 601, 602, and Mathematics Education 603, plus six units from Mathematics 509, 720, or Mathematics Education 604-607, nine adviser-approved elective units, and Mathematics 799A (Thesis). Plan B requires Mathematics 600, 601, 602, and Mathematics Education 603, nine units from Mathematics 509, 720, or Mathematics Education 604-607, and nine adviser-approved electives. Both plans require passing a comprehensive exam in mathematics education.
