The SDSU Physics Department stands out for its excellent student-to-faculty ratio, with upper-level physics classes typically having fewer than 25 students and graduate courses averaging around 10. The department fosters strong student-professor relationships, with faculty members being familiar with nearly all advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The majority of undergraduate and graduate lectures and lab courses are taught by full-time professors.
Central to the SDSU Physics Department's educational approach is providing students with practical, hands-on learning opportunities. A key feature of our physics curriculum is the meaningful participation of both undergraduate and graduate students in research projects. Advanced students work alongside faculty as research partners, while seniors and master's students engage in various research initiatives together, including attending research seminars and participating in group discussions.
