The Physics Department equips students for diverse 21st-century career paths in physics, applied physics, astronomy, finance, management, medicine, and other related disciplines. As a physics student, you'll master quantitative problem-solving skills that apply equally to financial analysis, bioengineering, or physics research. The physics major serves as a springboard for careers in both theoretical and applied physics, interdisciplinary domains like astronomy, biophysics, environmental science, oceanography, and scientific instrumentation, as well as fields such as economics, law, and medicine.
Our department provides undergraduate programs culminating in either a B.S. or B.A. degree, along with minors in astronomy/planetary science and physics. We also offer a graduate program leading to a Ph.D. in physics. The Bachelor of Science curriculum includes various electives tailored to individual student goals (with faculty advisor guidance), preparing students for graduate studies in physics, other physical sciences, or engineering, as well as careers in industry or research labs. The Bachelor of Arts program delivers fundamental physical science knowledge applicable to careers in natural/behavioral sciences, economics, or advanced study in professional schools.
