The Bachelor of Music in Professional Studies offers a comprehensive music education combining performance training (private lessons), music theory, ear training, music history, piano proficiency, ensemble participation, music technology, global music studies, and vocal/instrumental techniques. This program requires students to demonstrate proficiency equivalent to two semesters of college-level foreign language study.

This degree path prepares students for professional careers in music-related fields while also providing foundational knowledge for graduate music programs. Prospective students must complete an audition for admission to the BM in Professional Studies program.

Qualification Requirements

Completion of high school/secondary level. A certified copy of graduation certificate or diploma will be required prior to enrollment at SDSU. A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or 80 percent) or higher. TOEFL Passing score is 80 iBT and 550 paper or higher. IELTS Passing overall score is 6.5 or higher.
