Classics involves exploring the languages, literature, and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. These disciplines represent the earliest foundations of European and American liberal arts education. The term "classics" refers to works of exceptional quality, whose timeless wisdom and structured approaches maintain their significance today. Students majoring in classics benefit from access to the Burnett Classics Seminar Room, complete with its specialized library and multimedia materials. Alongside intimate language courses, personalized academic guidance, and the camaraderie of a close-knit department, classics students conclude their studies with a capstone senior seminar. The program provides three specialization tracks: classical humanities, classical language, or classical languages with honors. Every classics student completes at least two years of Greek or Latin study, selecting either a language-focused path (studying one or both languages) or the broader classical humanities concentration.
