The Urban Studies program is administered through the College of Arts and Letters. This multidisciplinary degree examines metropolitan areas and their populations, with special attention to environmental factors, cultural dynamics, economic and political systems, and spatial organization. The curriculum incorporates courses taught by distinguished faculty across multiple departments including Anthropology, Chicano and Chicana Studies, Economics, Geography, Latin American Studies, Political Science, Sociology, and Public Administration. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts and sciences.

Through diverse theoretical approaches, urban studies students investigate historical and modern urban phenomena. The program's wide-ranging course offerings enable examination of subjects like urban origins and expansion, current urbanization trends across various geographic scales, urban design paradigms, migration and cultural diversity in cities, diverse urban economic systems and governance models, urban power dynamics, and civic activism movements, among other relevant topics.

Qualification Requirements

If you are graduating from a high school outside of the United States, your application will be reviewed on the following admission criteria Completion of high school/secondary level. A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or 80 percent) or higher.
English Proficiency: If you are attending or have attended a high school where English was not the primary language of instruction, you must meet university-level competence in English through one of the following:

IELTS Passing overall score is 6.5 or higher.
