Those planning to pursue graduate studies in economics are highly advised to select this concentration. Economics examines the creation, allocation, and utilization of products and services. Students in this field investigate how manufacturers, suppliers, and buyers make choices. They also evaluate the circumstances influencing and resulting from these decisions. The economics program at SDSU covers numerous components of this intricate system, including price increases, joblessness, fiscal policies, financial systems, productivity, global trade, and development.

The Economics Department provides two focus areas to accommodate diverse professional aspirations: (1) International Economics, concentrating on global economic strategies and multinational commerce, and (2) Public Policy, preparing students for advanced studies in legal, healthcare management, and business administration fields. Additionally, the Quantitative Analysis specialization hones mathematical and analytical capabilities for economic investigation. A fourth alternative is the general economics track, offering comprehensive coverage of topics from both focus areas and the specialization.

Graduates with economics degrees can pursue opportunities in public sectors, financial organizations, corporations, and international entities. Pairing an economics major with a business minor creates opportunities for numerous career paths. Students fascinated by emerging economies, ecological concerns, governmental regulations, or demographic trends will discover economics provides valuable insights. Numerous beginner roles in corporate and public sectors are accessible to economics undergraduates.
