German language students have two primary degree options: the B.A. in German, which focuses on advanced language proficiency and cultural understanding, or the B.A. in German Studies, which takes an interdisciplinary approach allowing students to connect German Studies with related disciplines. Our program creates a dynamic educational setting where students cultivate analytical abilities, critical perspectives, and language/cultural expertise through examining German language, literature, linguistics, cinema, media, visual arts, philosophy, and socio-political traditions. We actively encourage international experiences via study abroad and internship opportunities in German-speaking nations, equipping students with valuable skills for success in today's global workforce. The German Studies track combines rigorous language training with interdisciplinary coursework (both within German and other departments) to develop comprehensive knowledge of German-speaking Europe's historical, cultural, and social contexts.
