The ASL-English interpretation program equips beginning sign language interpreters with skills for environments where deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing individuals communicate together. This associate degree helps students build core interpreting competencies.
Admission to the AAS program requires demonstrated proficiency at ASL III (INTP-126) level and readiness for ASL IV (INTP-225) (refer to course details). Holding a bachelor's degree is highly advised. (Important: National certification requires a four-year degree.) College applicants should show a 3.0+ GPA with strong English course performance. Writing samples will be evaluated for vocabulary, grammar, organization, style, and originality.
Successful students in this program need abilities including: comprehending speakers behind them, understanding distant speakers, focusing on speech in noisy environments, and interpreting recorded audio through headphones
