Upon earning their MS or PhD in Computer Science, graduates will achieve the following:
Establish a robust graduate-level foundation in Computer Science. Graduates will exhibit comprehensive knowledge across multiple subfields, integrate concepts from diverse areas to solve problems, and develop specialized expertise in their chosen thesis domain.
Execute autonomous research initiatives. Graduates will formulate original research questions, situate them within existing academic literature, and carry out independent investigations yielding scientifically valid outcomes.
Exhibit professional communication proficiency. Qualification Requirements
At least three letters of recommendation are required. The online application system will require you to submit letter writer names and email addresses. Electronic copies of transcripts are required from each college or university that you have attended, use the online application system to submit all electronic transcripts. If you are offered admission to Rice, you will be required to have official copies of each transcript mailed directly to the department. Applicants may optionally (but are not required to) submit scores for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) general exam. The ETS school code for Rice is 6609. GRE subject test scores are not required. Applicants who are foreign nationals or whose native language is not English must take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test and must score at least 90 on the iBT TOEFL or at least 600 on the paper-based TOEFL. For those students who choose to take the IELTS in lieu of TOEFL, the minimum score is 7.
