The Department of Nutrition Science serves as the foundation for cultivating the next generation of nutrition experts equipped to thrive in our global society.
Through decades of research, we've recognized how significantly dietary choices influence human and animal health. Our nutrition studies combine knowledge from multiple fields: biochemistry, physiology, psychology, food science, genetics, and cellular biology form the core of our nutritional understanding and practical applications.
The Interdepartmental Nutrition Program (INP) offers cross-disciplinary education for those pursuing nutrition science careers. With faculty from various departments, students gain access to diverse expertise and learning experiences. Applicants to INP enroll through Purdue West Lafayette's Nutrition graduate program, working with INP faculty advisors to obtain either an MS or PhD degree. The program teaches multiple methodologies to tackle critical nutrition challenges. During application, candidates specify their focus area by choosing among these specialized tracks:
Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition
Human and Clinical Nutrition
Animal Health, Growth and Development
Population Nutrition and Health Promotion
