The Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University provides the ideal setting, expert faculty, and top-tier facilities to foster one of the nation's premier graduate and professional programs. Students engage in groundbreaking research that expands biological knowledge across species that enhance human welfare. Purdue's Animal Sciences program explores the distinct characteristics of animals while improving the production and quality of animal protein. The department grants both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, equipping graduates for careers in research and education across academic, corporate, and governmental sectors. We take particular pride in our faculty's achievements and their worldwide recognition, with over a third participating in international programs and providing technical research assistance annually. Notably, in 1993, three faculty members simultaneously held Fulbright Scholar positions in different nations. Modern challenges increasingly require collaborative, cross-disciplinary solutions, exemplified by Purdue's "Lean Team" - seven researchers honored by the USDA in 1992 for their pioneering work in lean-growth studies. These efforts represent both current and future research directions.
