Purdue University is home to faculty and student teams investigating the elements that influence chemistry learning and the most effective teaching approaches. Within our Division of Chemical Education, Professors Trevor Anderson, George Bodner, and Marcy Towns lead research initiatives alongside their graduate students. Their studies explore diverse areas such as: Problem-solving techniques, Educational technologies, Innovative teaching methods, Scientific inquiry processes, Visual comprehension skills, Classroom interaction analysis, Laboratory-based education, Mathematical applications in physical chemistry, and Environmental awareness. The division maintains a global perspective through international partnerships and students. Chemical education faculty pursue varied research topics, including how students grasp molecular concepts, mathematical applications in physical chemistry, biomolecular visualization, scientific understanding, climate awareness, organic chemistry principles, and undergraduate lab objectives. By translating research discoveries into practical teaching strategies, we bridge foundational studies with classroom applications.
