Industrial engineers create, evaluate, and oversee intricate systems that incorporate human elements, like manufacturing operations, supply chain logistics, and service delivery systems. These systems often integrate people, data, materials, and machinery. Industrial engineers identify ways to enhance these systems for peak productivity, performance, output, safety, or other goals important to system stakeholders.
To meet these goals, industrial engineers utilize expertise in mathematics, physical and engineering sciences, and management and behavioral sciences to serve as problem-solvers, innovators, designers, coordinators, and system integrators. They work in and apply their skills across a broad spectrum of organizations, including manufacturing and service industries, as well as government agencies.
