The Purdue Physics Department enjoys global recognition for its outstanding research and educational programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Our physics major courses maintain small class sizes, typically under 30 students, with instruction provided by research-active faculty members. We actively promote undergraduate research involvement, offering opportunities to join research teams as early as the second semester. These research areas span diverse fields including condensed matter physics (both experimental and theoretical), high energy physics, nanophysics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, biophysics, geophysics, relativity, and interdisciplinary collaborations with materials science, engineering, and computational science.
The department actively supports students in securing summer internships with external organizations. Our graduates consistently gain admission to prestigious graduate programs and are highly recruited for high-tech industry positions. Alumni have established remarkable career trajectories across various sectors, including academic institutions and prominent industrial and governmental research laboratories.
