The Chemistry Department works together to push the boundaries of chemical understanding through cutting-edge research and education. As a collaborative academic community, we bring together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students at all levels to drive progress in chemical sciences. Often called the Central Science, chemistry serves as a vital foundation for diverse fields including Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Forensic Science, Earth Sciences, Materials Science, and Toxicology. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, contemporary chemistry education that demonstrates its connections to other disciplines. Undergraduate students receive top-tier classroom and lab training, building a strong foundation for advanced study in graduate or professional programs. Our graduate program prepares future chemists for leadership roles in research, education, and scientific administration.
The Chemistry-Physics dual major option allows Chemistry B.S. students to simultaneously complete a Physics major.
Beyond standard Chemistry requirements, this dual degree requires 22 physics credit hours plus specific chemistry courses. Physics coursework must include a University Physics sequence with two accompanying labs, plus PHY 350 and PHY 360, with remaining courses requiring physics advisor approval. Required chemistry courses are CHM 360, CHM 364, CHM 365, CHM 464, and one elective from CHM 530, CHM 553, or CHM 575.
