Examines the evolution of America's governance framework and political structures, exploring their interaction with citizens and public attitudes. As a global leader in both economic strength and military capability, the United States also boasts the world's longest-standing democratic tradition and oldest active constitution. The nation's vibrant electoral processes, influential court system, autonomous congressional body, significant state-federal balance, ethnic diversity and tensions, waves of immigration, and other unique aspects of American governance have captivated political scholars since the 1700s. This rich history has made U.S. political studies a source for fundamental theories that shape global political understanding. Princeton University's faculty includes over a dozen specialists in American government, offering comprehensive expertise across diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives.
