Berkeley's American politics program unites faculty and graduate students in exploring critical issues facing U.S. governance and democracy through varied methodological lenses.
Faculty research addresses numerous key areas, including: representation in modern American politics, political consequences of growing economic disparity, immigration politics and minority representation, interpretations of national identity, causes and effects of partisan division, evolution of government agencies and public engagement with institutions like the justice system and social programs, and power dynamics between legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The program equips students with multiple analytical methods, incorporating quantitative analysis, historical perspectives, game theory, behavioral studies, and institutional examination.
