Princeton's School of Architecture serves as the hub for architectural education and research, encompassing design, history, and theory while providing both master's and doctoral programs. The master's program features professional and post-professional options, focusing on design mastery within architectural scholarship. Architecture is viewed as a cultural discipline blending creative thinking with practical skills. Students tailor their studies around core requirements that define contemporary architectural education. The five-year Ph.D. program explores architectural history, theory, criticism, urban design, landscape, and building technology through an interdisciplinary lens. Candidates collaborate with faculty across departments to develop personalized study plans, including coursework, comprehensive exams, and dissertation research. The technology Ph.D. specialization advances research in embodied computation and sustainable energy systems, connecting with the School of Engineering and Applied Science through Computer Science and the Andlinger Center. A dedicated proseminar introduces research methodologies, while hands-on work utilizes resources like the Embodied Computation Lab's industrial robotic arm and Andlinger Center facilities.
