The University of Nebraska-Lincoln provides three graduate programs in architectural engineering, located at the Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology, and Engineering (PKI) in Omaha, Nebraska—approximately 50 miles northeast of Lincoln. Ph.D. candidates in architectural engineering can specialize in areas such as building energy, lighting, electrical systems, acoustics, and structural design. Campus life includes participation in various professional organizations and student groups, such as: the Acoustical Society of America, the Architectural Engineering Institute's University of Nebraska Student Branch, the UNL Architectural Engineering Construction Student Outreach Program (AECSOP), and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
