The Department of Art and Archaeology focuses on examining visual arts and material artifacts across diverse cultures and historical eras. Students can choose to major in Art History or Studio Art, with additional details available about the Archaeology Certificate. The Visual Arts Program faculty lead studio courses, while Art History classes often incorporate hands-on elements. Through intimate class settings and direct engagement with original artifacts and primary materials, students investigate topics ranging from ancient to contemporary urban design, printmaking traditions in Eastern and Western cultures, archaeological studies of early civilizations, architectural developments from Islamic to Early Modern periods, photographic arts from the 19th century onward, and modern artistic expressions across Africa, Latin America, and the U.S. An Art & Archaeology degree opens doors to numerous professional paths and advanced study opportunities. Graduates have pursued advanced degrees in fields including art history, creative arts, museum curation, architectural design, comparative literature, regional studies (such as Classical, Asian, African American, Gender, or European studies), linguistics, and historical research. Many also continue to professional schools for medicine, law, public administration, or business. The department's training provides foundational skills for careers in education, media, publishing, cultural institutions, nonprofit work, architectural design, visual communication, and commercial arts.

If English is not your native language and you are attending a school where English is not the language of instruction, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic). You are not required to take the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic if English is your native language or if you have spent at least three years at a secondary school where English is the primary language of instruction.
