Tackle intricate societal challenges, explore innovative concepts and mediums, and influence how art and design contribute to societal progress, working alongside schools, communities, and cultural institutions. Pratt's MA and Advanced Certificate in Art and Design Education programs, which include initial New York State teacher certification (visual arts, all grade levels), equip students to combine their rigorous studio training with contemporary teaching methodologies in art and design. Through fieldwork and student teaching placements, participants bridge their creative expertise with educational theory and classroom strategies. Rooted in art and design pedagogy, students also conduct thesis research on curriculum development. During their teaching assignments in K-12 schools and community learning environments, they create comprehensive studio experiences for youth, honor students' diverse backgrounds, and foster connections with families and neighborhoods.
This program is open to individuals with a minimum of a 3.0 in their bachelor’s degree and 25 credit hours in art, design, and/or the history of art from an accredited higher education institution or the equivalent of the bachelor's degree from an international institution of acceptable standards.
