The Intermedia MFA is a cross-disciplinary studio program dedicated to experimental artistic exploration, cutting-edge technological innovation, and the creation of hybrid art forms including: time-based media, digital/video art, installations, performance pieces, artist publications, community-engaged art, conceptual works, internet art, and emerging formats. These contemporary expressions maintain meaningful ties to established artistic traditions in music, literature, performance theory, media studies, and visual arts. This MFA program emphasizes the convergence of modern technologies and artistic practice. The term "Intermedia" embodies our core philosophy – to explore and develop creative methodologies that exist conceptually and materially between conventional media boundaries, bridging fields like: photographic arts and computing, biological sciences and three-dimensional art, or musical composition and social sciences.

At the University of Maine, our three-year Intermedia MFA enables graduate students to pursue groundbreaking creative and scholarly work through a adaptable curriculum that fosters personal artistic growth within an interdisciplinary framework.
