The Art Department provides a Graduate Certificate in Design program that expands upon its newly established Graduate Design courses and the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design degree.

This Graduate Certificate program focuses intensely on cultivating visual communication skills while emphasizing strategic thinking across various design disciplines including graphic arts, corporate branding, publication design, industrial concepts, spatial design, product development, gaming interfaces, marketing communications, and digital interaction.

The curriculum deeply integrates design processes, theoretical foundations, and the development of individual creative approaches. Whether conveying information through audio, visual elements, text formatting, physical spaces, imagery, or digital interfaces, designers face significant opportunities to craft influential messages that ultimately define our cultural landscape.

Qualification Requirements

To be admitted to the graduate certificate in design, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent.
Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
Letter of recommendation from a faculty member
Personal statement detailing artistic direction, professional goals, and reasons for pursuing the graduate degree.
Portfolio of professional work.
